Southern Sudan: Families in Malakal in dire need of food

February 10 2011 - 10/02/2011 - After days of fighting between some Northern and Southern components of troops in the town of Malakal, the UN Mission in Sudan (UNMIS) has restored peace. Families who took refuge in the local SOS Children's Village are gradually returning home. But many of them have lost everything due to lootings; shortage of food is the main concern at the moment. SOS Children's Villages will transport food packages via airfreight from Khartoum to Malakal to help the most vulnerable children.

SOS Children's Villages gives refuge to 150 families as gunfights break out in South Sudan

February 7 2011 - 07/02/2011 - The SOS Children's Village Malakal has taken in more than 150 families seeking shelter after 50 people reportedly died in gunfights. Violent clashes broke out over the coming secession of South Sudan from the North after today's official recognition of the referendum results.

SOS facilities in Sri Lanka affected by torrential rain

February 7 2011 - 07/02/2011- Heavy monsoon rain caused flooding across the Eastern, Northern and North Central provinces of Sri Lanka for the second time in less than a month. The SOS Children's Village in Anuradhapura in the North Central province is flooded as is the SOS Kindergarten near Batticaloa on the Eastern shore of the island.
