United Nations adopted a resolution welcoming the Guidelines for the Alternative Care of Children

November 23 2009 - 23/11/2009 - SOS Children's Villages International is very pleased to announce that on 20 November 2009 the United Nations General Assembly in New York adopted a resolution welcoming the Guidelines for the Alternative Care of Children. Over the last five years, SOS Children's Villages International has been a leading organisation in supporting the development of these Guidelines and promoting them towards adoption.

Children and young people in care - Discover your rights!

November 20 2009 - 20/11/2009 - On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), SOS Children's Villages and the Council of Europe have published a youth friendly version of the rights of children in alternative care together. The publication is based on the UNCRC, the Q4C Standards and the Recommendations of the Council of Europe on the rights of children living in residential institutions (2005).

SOS Children's Villages El Salvador helps families who lost everything to Hurricane Ida

November 19 2009 - 19/11/2009 - In the aftermath of the tropical storm that devastated parts of El Salvador at the beginning of this month, SOS Children's Villages has launched an emergency relief programme, handing out basic food supplies and advice on hygiene and sanitation to those families who were hit hardest by Hurricane Ida.
